cork is the new black

Say No to Fast Fashion for a greener future

Cork trees, sobreiros, can live over 200 years. Harvesting occurs once they reach maturity (~ 25 years in age) and then, only every 9 years after that. Typically, it takes 3 extractions before cork has enough quality to be transformed into a fashion accessory. Raw cork comes from the bark of the cork oak tree, mainly found in Portugal and Spain.

The cork used to create TIRADIA's products is sustainably harvested from Portugal. The extraction process of retrieving cork promotes sustainability due to the manual effort in which the bark is stripped, causing no harm to the tree, helping the tree grow stronger. After extraction, cork is stored for about 6 months to stabilize and to develop a moisture content. Then, heat and pressure are applied to the cork to press it into blocks, which are later sliced into sheets. Finally, transformed into our products and delivered to you.
